Debunking Emergency Room Myths

The uninsured are not responsible for over-crowding emergency rooms in USA says new study...DEVELOPING!!! More on this story tonight!

Well generally from my experiences its not so much the uninsured who "overcrowd" emergency rooms, its the ones with some form of Government sponsored health insurance. They seem to feel the er is their own personal doctors office.

The uninsured are good for giving false information (bad phone numbers/addresses) and skipping out on the bills though....

Posting from the ER I currently work at I could state that although the uninsured and their fake info is a problem, the much bigger problem are those with Medicaid who use the ER for any and all medical problems. Be they real or imaginary. They also could be blamed for the cost shifting to those with private insurance, as the government mandated reimbursement rates for medicaid are usually less than 10% of costs the patient actually charged to the hospital.
